Dr. Kim is born and raised in Seoul Korea where he is Professor of Medicine at Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine and Samsung Medical Center. Dr. Kim graduated from Seoul National University in 1985, and obtained his Medical Master’s degree in 1991. His PhD was obtained in 1996. After an internship at Seoul national University Hospital from 1985-1986, Dr. Kim completed his mandatory Korean military service (1986-1989), and then completed his residency in Internal Medicine (1992). Subspecialty training in Pulmonary Medicine was followed by a sojourn in Lungenklinik, Hemer, Germany, and then two years at University of California Medical Center (1997-1999). During this time, Dr. Kim served as an assistant professor of medicine at Samsung Medical Center in Seoul, moving up through the ranks to full Professor in 2007.

Dr. Kim is a member of the Korean Medical Association, the Korean Society of Tuberculosis and Pulmonary Disease, as well as a member of international organizations such as the World Association for Bronchology, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, and the Asian Pacific Association for Bronchology. Although a major focus of his research and clinical activity has been in the field of Pulmonary Hypertension, Dr. Kim has also considerable expertise in lung cancer treatment, bronchoscopy and interventional procedures. He is considered a leading expert in bronchoscopic management of tuberculous airway strictures and other causes of benign central airway obstruction.
